BEAR VALLEY MOUNTAIN RESORT SENDS SKIER TO JR. OLYMPICS

16-year-old Alexis Machovisky among 40 skiers chosen to compete in Western Region Series Finals at Snow King Resort in Wyoming

BEAR VALLEY, Calif. –March 15, 2006 – Before this year’s ski season ever began, 16-year-old Alexis Machovisky expressed one goal: to compete in the Junior Olympics. She will realize that goal this week when she travels to Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to compete in the Western Region Series Finals, a Jr. Olympics event that draws the top 40 skiers, ages 15 to 19 years old, from states including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Utah, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming.

Alexis, who has grown up skiing at Bear Valley Mountain Resort since she was three years old, began skiing competitively more than eight years ago. Her accomplishments during that time have been significant, which is evident from the trophies that adorn her bedroom. But none have been more meaningful than her upcoming trip to the Western Region Series Finals, the result of a strong placing at the regional qualifying event at Kirkwood Mountain Resort in January.

“This is by far my biggest accomplishment since skiing competitively,” said Alexis. “I’m really excited to go to Snow King and compete in the Junior Olympics. It’s a great honor and something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

The Junior Olympics event at Snow King will be held March 16-19, 2006 for two age classes, J2 (15-16 years old) and J1 (17-19 years old), with participants competing in the slalom and giant slalom -- Alexis will be competing in both events. Male and female winners of each race and the combined champions are named to the USSA Junior Olympic Team.
