Besides the excellent wines, there are many other reasons why Calaveras County should be on the map for anyone who loves fine vintage. Stop in at any of the wineries for free wine tasting. Meet the winery owners and the winemakers to learn all about the wines they offer. Each of the wineries has its own personality and its own specialty wines.

Many of the wineries have tasting rooms in downtown Murphys, enabling you to walk from tasting room to tasting room, while strolling through gift and antique shops and dining at fine restaurants. Visit www.calaveraswines.org for more details.

WORLD CLASS WINE MADE FROM WORLD CLASS GRAPES. Broll Mountain Vineyards produces 100% estate bottled Syrah, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Rousanne (release 2007) from their Murphys vineyards. French Hill is a unique ultra-premium micro winery where you’ll discover some of the foothill’s most awarded wines. Lavender Ridge Vineyard produces only Rhone varietal wines including Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, and more. Wines are made in small quantiites and are hand crafted, native yeast fermented, and unfiltered. Rich and his wife Siri run the tasting room which is located in the historic town of Murphys. In addition to wine tasting one can sample organic olive oil and various lavender products.

Twisted Oak Winery produces award-winning wines made from grapes you have never heard of, grapes
that grow really well in the foothills and taste pretty damn yummy. Grapes like Viognier,
Tempranillo, Verdelho, Grenache, and Murgatroyd. (We lied, that last one isn't a grape...) We have
two locations (both strangely overrun with rubber chickens): the winery itself, open daily at 4280
Red Hill Road at Highway 4 in Vallecito (between Angels Camp and Murphys); and in Murphys at 350
Main Street, open Thursday through Sunday.

Hatcher Winery, owned and operated by the Hatcher brothers, has a reputation for outstanding wines. Drop by our tasting room and visit Sewell Hatcher, while you try a Zinfandel (our most popular wine), our 100% Cabernet sauvignon (spared no expense), our Quinn the Eskimo Viognier dessert wine (makes everyone who tries it say yum!) or our many other well crafted varietals. There is usually some great bluegrass playing in the background! We are located on Main St in Murphys, across from Grounds Restaurant.
